We had our first tag-team trip to see Dr.G on Friday. The twins were due for their 2 month check-up. I was particularily interested in weight gain : just how big was Luke & was Madeleine packing on the ounces like she needed to be. She has been a little more anemic than him, thus a little slower on the eating department. So she takes a bit of iron, twice a day to sort of help. Basically, I was just hoping she was moving in the right direction. Plus, both kiddos were starting to be a bit lazy on their night feedings so I was hoping Dr.G would give us the go ahead to let them sleep until one wakes, and then feed them both.
Here are the stats :
Madeleine:
6 lbs 9 oz
{great weight gain since her last visit - still not on the 'normal' growth chart}
20 inches long
{on the normal growth chart =)}
Luke:
8 lbs 8 oz
{yes, 2 POUNDS heavier than sister & on the 'normal' chart}
20.5 inches long
so YAY!
no more waking up sleepy babies at night - let their clocks start to wake them
YAY for weight gain
YAY for long babies too
YAY for Luke being allowed to have breastfeeding only feeds
YAY for their first series of shots
{yes, YAY, their sort of whimpered than got over it... ahhh, that's our kids for ya!}
Then it was off for their Synergist shots.
?what?
Basically, during RSV season {read: cold season} most of us get flu shots with some form of the vaccine {live or protein parts, etc} to trick our bodies into making the antibodies to fight the flu. Well, instead of having preemies {and other at risk kids} work to make those antibodies, they get shots of the actual antibodies. Once a month, until about March or so. Sounds great. But these poor shots are awful and painful and EXPENSIVE... Thanks be to GOD we have amazing insurance.
with Insurance : $60 {$10/month} {$5/kid}
without Insurance : $2400 {$4000/month} {$2000/kid}
yikes.
we have a weight check again in a month but so far so GREAT! The only tricky thing is how they are indifferent diaper sizes....haha.
