Catching Up : Part II : Ten Months +

The twins are 10 months old {well they were, now we are rapidly approaching 11 months and oh my gosh don't get me started on their first birthday being AROUND THE CORNER }

for now, let's focus on 10 months

There was no doctor check-up but there was a Developmental Check Up... a repeat of the one we did a little over 3 months ago.  They will continue doing these until they get the thumbs up they are caught up, which is usually around 2, but after our AWESOME visit they believe they could be "18-monthers"

Our visit went a bit like this.

Observation of them moving, crawling, exploring... basically being 10 month olds. Luke was on a roll, gabbing and 'chatting' the entire time as he checked EVERY corner out. Madeleine held back a little (she was recovering from a high fever cycle that lasted about 36 hours and ended that morning and was quickly chased by lovely red bumps...ahhh scarlet fever, but she was rockin her skills)

Then there was the 'testing.' This was done one at a time, but I will detail them together for times sake. I would sit a twin on my lap facing our fabulous specialist and she would offer them something or show them a task and see what they would do, how they would interact or explore, etc.

Task 1: Grab the Cheerio

Goal : Use the thumb & index finger to ... oops They ate them

Results : ummm success, they were all about this one

Task 2 : The cup with the cube inside - 

Goal{dare I say that, but rather what she was looking for} : will they reach inside to get the cube & how they 'play/explore' the cup/cube

Results:

Madeleine: looked inside & cautiously grabbed it and explored

Luke: thought it sounded cool, shook it up and eventually got it out too

Task 3: Bang the cup

Goal: {this ones obvious right?}

Results:

Madeleine: check mate, she is a master at this

Luke : check mate, done and done

Task 4: Circle on a string

Goal: Grab the tiny string and pull the circle ring

Results:

Madeleine: rightfully grabbed her string with her lovely index finger and thumb and playfully pulled the circle around

Luke: placed his right hand fingers on the string and sort of played with it while staring directly at our specialist, then in sort of a ninja style used the other hand to quickly grab the ring... sneaky

Task 5 : look for it

Goal: watch something fall and look for it, appropriatly

Results:

Two happy babies quickly followed the object to the floor

Task 6 : Ring the Bell

Goal : duh

Results:

joyful, loud, continuous noise

Task 7 : Find the Bell

Goal : Lift the napkin to reveal the hidden bell that we just watched her put under it

Results:

Madeleine: immediatly lifts the napkin and grabs the bell

Luke: immediatly looks shocked, and starts scanning the floor for the bell, she repeats the visual, even ringing the bell while its hidden.... Luke again, looks totally shocked and starts searching everywhere, but under the table. third time around he finally grabbed at the napkin... that-a-boy

OVERALL RESULTS

The twins are both measuring at around 9.5 months---so incredibly close to their actual age

Luke did measure at 11.5 on his gross motor ability {that would be in regards to how he is moving, crawling, etc... not anything to do with him being a boy :) }
