Meet Dirk

We started a new family tradition this year... The Elf on the Shelf.

For those who aren't familiar, it is basically a little Elf, from Santa of course, who comes out after Thanksgiving to watch you and report back to Santa. You aren't allowed to touch him and every day he moves around so it is your job to find him. But feel free to talk to him and tell him all the things you want.

Seeing it was our first year to do this, and Faith had the loaded responsibility of naming the Elf, we were sort of excited to see what would come out of her mouth. So we sat down as a family and read the story, carefully asking her to find the Elf on every page. We wanted to make sure she was excited about searching for the Elf since we knew the entire concept wouldn't connect. Well at the very end we asked her what the name of her Elf was (you get one with the book). We expected her to say "Elf" since that is all we had called him, but she clearly stated "Dirk."

And thus, Dirk has become a part of our family tradition

Here's to Dirk.
